Foreign Body Removal

Description

Foreign body removal refers to the process of retrieving an object that has been introduced into the body. Often by accident, objects may be inserted into the nose or ears, or may be swallowed via the mouth. The degree of symptoms vary depending upon the nature of the object, the size of the object, or length of exposure.

Treatment

Treatment includes an evaluation by your child’s physician to determine the best method for retrieval. This can be a simple process if the object is stuck in your child’s nose or ear. If your child swallowed the foreign object, they may be able to pass it naturally. If they are unable to pass the object naturally, your doctor will remove the object via an endoscope.
